[It's been only a few days since Jolene had arrived, but one of those early July showers has driven her to take refuge within the tree. Fearing the center of the hollowed out trunk and the blue life stream within, she's taken to alighting on one of the branches. It just so happens to be the one with the embedded mirror.
She watches it for a long time, climbing under the branch the moment she hears anyone approach, and then returning again whenever it appears that she's alone again.
One thing she had noted from day one was that something was wrong with her rifle: the spark required to put its mechanisms into motion simply would not go. Now, staring at the broken and rebinding weapon in the mirror, she wonders if this is some kind of indication.
When she's certain that she will be left more or less alone, she begins to dismantle her her rifle into its component parts. This is not an easy task, but luckily the bark is well-grained enough before her to catch any rolling pieces.
Once that's done, she inspects everything and, careful, methodical as always, she puts it all back together again. After that's done, she takes careful aim at a leaf further down the branch to see if it will fire, hoping that the mirror has offered some kind of solution.]
