The answer was probably a bit of both. But then Kit was a cat, and very light on her feet even in comparison to others of her kind. She could probably sneak up on a good portion of the tree's residents if she were so inclined. This time, however, it was unintentional.

Not that either of them were really worried about that just now. "That," Kit says, indicating the knife. "How'd you make it appear out of thin air like that? I've seen street performers pretend to be able to do that, but actually doing it would take real magic. I've just never seen magic that could do that before."
