03 Amber | Downstream of the Boat

[For once this lanky young woman does not look like she's trying to win a staring contest with a cockatrice when she activates her amber slice. She does look sweaty and tired, but maybe that's actually helping. Behind her the mist is close, a towering wall, but the chuckle of the stream gives away her location before she can even open her mouth.]

Hey, any of you happen to be strong and willing to lend a hand? Me and Evan, [And indeed, the gawky redhead struggling to roll and heft rocks behind her happens to be in the frame as she talks,] are putting together a fish trap. I don't know about any of you but the thought of real meat that we don't have to bargain for with stone doubloons is so tempting we've been building this thing for the last couple of weeks straight.

It could use refining.

[She swings the slice around to reveal a very crude weir along one side of the stream composed entirely of raised pebbles and smooth rocks; it doesn't block the stream because Jo has noted the boat at dock just upstream of her location, but she's making a fair play at funnelling any minnows into it.]

Once we're done we just need some bait and some lucky catches. I never learned spear fishing but I'll bet some of you super freaks has a leg up on that. Come on down, huh?

You serious about the spear hunting? Does nobody here know about gun powder or what? [But at least she's in good humour, grinning at him, mildly impressed.] What did you bag?

Oh, yeah...I'm not sure that would be a good form of money, though.

I'm not really sure how to use a gun. I think they're too "fancy" for my foster father. ["Fancy" in quotes, because he thinks that's silly. Guns have been around for....I don't actually know how long in Warcraft, but whatever, Meryl is old and crotchety. Jo is not old and crotchety, though, and that makes Med'an happy!! Maybe friends? ;u; ]

There's a lot of boar to be had around Duskwood. Bats and spiders, too, but those...really aren't as tasty as boar.

I'd eat bacon for a week solid if anyone around this dump let me, [Jo leaps in, but the moment that Med'an mentions his fine dining alternatives, her expression sours.] I'll pass on the bats, rats, and alley cats, though.

Unfortunately, the best you're going to get as far as I can tell is fish and ants. The ants don't taste good.

Ooh, bacon...[YES GOOD LET US TALK MORE ABOUT FOOD MED'AN LOVES FOOD. :E :E :E ] But I don't think I'd eat a cat. They're cute.

Mm...[Oh slightly gross...(bah) Of course, there are plenty of cultures that do eat bugs, right? He doesn't want to knock it...but...] Maybe you have to...cook the ants a certain way.

Yeah, there's things on that list that you eat, and there's things you don't eat. Grasshoppers probably shouldn't be on that list.

[Jo leans into the amber slice and furrows her brows, looking a little conspiratorial.]

...But I ate one too. Crunchy. Juicy. Really fucking gross.
