[Amber]

[The amber glows upon the face of a frustrated young man. It's turned a few degrees, then a hand slips up and messes with with tangled strands of hair. His face shifts from side to side, eyes following the outline of his face. He's fascinated with the odd little mirror. Comfortable with the outcome of his quick-fix effort, he looks up towards the hole in the ceiling.]

Now, I will surely get up there this time!

[Alla spreads his midnight-blue wings and wobbles into the air. The room around him tilts, then shrinks as he ascends. The scrunched-up lines in his face soften into a smile. He's done it!

Then, without warning, he slips from view, crashing back down onto the floor with a yelp of surprise followed by a moan.]

Oh dear... this was my best garment. Oh no...

[Another face and voice. Everything is becoming rather complicated very suddenly.]

Euh?

[His face flushes a bit more from his embarrassment being so easily recogniseable]

W-What do you mean? Have you had wings all your life?

Oh no, only for about... six months or so? I was quite surprised to find them on my back when I first took the stone.

[She's talking quite casually, like a sudden acquisition of fairy wings is only cause for slightly raised eyebrows.]

So, it is the stone! I was not quite sure at first... Are they truly real? They do not hurt when they emerge.

[Alla fidgets as a rosy glow flushes his face. It is a strange thing to ask, but he knows quite well that transformations, his, at least, cause pain.]

Real enough to let us fly on them, certainly! It's an odd bit of magic, and I don't know exactly how they work, but they definitely do.

My name is Fuu, by the way. What's yours?

I suppose they do...?

[The youth cranes his head backward to study his new wings. Definitely work? Maybe not in his case.]

Oh dear! I forgot about introductions.

[Alla's cheeks flush red at his poor manners.]

My name is Alla dAubergine. It is a pleasure to meet you, miss Fuu.

Don't worry. Flying is like anything else: practice makes perfect! Or at the least, airborne.

[She smiles. But the repeated blushing lets her know that he may be an outlet for her... unique sense of humor.]

Likewise, Sir Alla. [The clothes are fancy and the name sounds like it could be a noble house.] Wings aside, how are you finding our Tree?

[Being addressed so nicely brings a smile to Alla's already flushed face.]

Since I have not been very far, I can only comment on what I have been informed of.

I am finding it... how should I say, impressive? [More along the lines of unbelievable.] I had never thought of being in such a situation.

Are we truly very tiny? What is done about food and, euh, daily living?

"Impressive" is quite a good word, I think. Even after so long here, I find new things to be amazed by... and while I have been to another world, this is the first time I've been changed so substantially.

Food, fortunately, is provided for us on a banquet table in the branches. And there are often enough edible plans growing around the tree that we can harvest, too--there are also apartments built into the trunk. It's actually quite a comfortable set-up.

Another...world? Are we not in Racitoire, miss?

[Surely this was some sort of fairy path within his own world, wasn't it? No one, in his hearing, at least, had ever brought up the concept of another world to him.]

Ah, I see. We are most fortunate in that. May I assist in some way? I have never harvested food, yet I am certain I could learn.

[And probably screw it up somehow, but that is beside the point. He's certain he can muddle through somehow.]

No, I'm afraid not. We're on--well, I believe so, at least--a world called Earth, which I had previously thought to be thoroughly unmagical. Quite an eye-opener!

And I would be happy for your help. I'm not an herbmaster, but I do know enough to recognize some edible plants.

Earth... what an odd thing to call a country.

[World doesn't quite register with him. The largest things he knows are countries and seas.]

Magic in Racitoire is only available to Angels and Demons, I am afraid. However, I am believing now that faeries and their magic are very real...

[Not that there has ever been proof of faries, but this whole experience is all the proof he'll ever need.]

I must admit, I am quite curious to know what we can harvest if we are so small. It must not be very easy, especially by ones self.

It has different names in different languages--perhaps one of those would sound better to you. [She's not offended, just teasing, and will refrain from saying that it would be a strange name for a planet. That might be too much for him right now.] Angel and Demon magic sounds like a very serious affair. Fairy magic may be less intimidating.

It can be challenging, but fortunately I have a blade [a truly absurd one] and the upshot is that when you're tiny, even one or two plants give a long-lasting supply.

Demons are considered quite dangerous. They are masters of the seas which border Racitoire, although they are rarely seen otherwise. High Priests of great power can summon an Angelic presence, yet I am told it is a difficult skill.

[It sounds a bit like a recitation because it is. He's learned these facts over time from studies, not naturally as children often do. His brow puckers in a little frown. What would fairy magic be like?]

Certainly it must be...kinder magic. Fairies are gentle creatures, in stories.

A blade? Are you a warrior, miss?

[He sounds a bit startled by that possibility.]

My my, the sea is dangerous enough without being ruled by demons. [She does note the schoolboy quality--a highly tutored young nobleman, then.]

And so far I would say you're right about fairy magic. There are a couple of little fairy-creatures you can meet and they're quite helpful.

[She looks a little sheepish when he asks if she's a warrior, though it's a natural question.]

I'd call myself a student first, but I have had my share of dangerous adventures.

[He wouldn't know anything about sea travel outside of that, considering his studies. Though, he has occasionally wondered what it'd be like on a boat. Frivolous thoughts are shaken away as curiosity about fairies returns.]

Little fairy-creatures...? How is it they help? Do they live in this tree?

[Alla's blue eyes grow in both shock and in concern.]

I-it is fortunate that you have weathered such adventures! Your must have mastered many skills.

[His mind floats back to his sword fighting training and how far behind on it he is.]

Perhaps you can tell me of them sometime?

They do! You'll be able to meet them yourself soon, but Miss Chime keeps a stable of animals, and Mr. Tone dispenses a very useful fairy-dust.

[Her adventures... well, yes, naturally.]

It certainly prepared me for the experience of being sent to unknown places without warning. I do have some interesting stories that I can tell you, if you don't mind returning the favor.

Oh! I will do my best to remember their names.

[He repeats them in his mind, however, he's easily distracted from that as Fuu continues. His cheeks flush and gaze drops as she expects him to have interesting adventures to tell. How could any of his experiences compare to dangerous adventures? The only comparable one's he's been on are ones involving his transformations, and there's no way he'll tell her those.]

I-I am afraid I lack any interesting stories to share. However, I will do my best to tell you about where I am from, if that will suffice.

[She takes note of his reaction. Is it really just embarrassment at having a normal life compared to dangerous adventures, or stories that would be painful to tell?]

When we're all from such different places, even plain descriptions of one's home are quite intriguing. I would call it a fair exchange.

As you wish, miss.

[The prospect of telling stories, while it is bit embarrassing, might serve to distract him from the heavier, more dangerous feelings he's been having, at least for the moment.]
