He looks back at Kaoru, expression unchanged. Kaoru's right—despite the holes and their poor patchwork, he doesn't feel as though the tree is in great pain. The setting is surprisingly comforting, actually, regardless of these small wounds. He knows trees are strong, having been surrounded by them for most of his life, but it's for that reason he worries for them in particular.
