I really have to wonder at how quickly we're destroying this place.

[ Archer announces himself over the amber with that casual and dire remark. His tone is bored. ]

First of all, we've upset the balance of nature by killing a predator and allowing defenseless prey animals to multiply unchecked. Those rabbits will probably suffer once they meet the cruel reality of life beyond this tree, you know.

And now we've nearly destroyed the tree itself with our meddling. Isn't that impressive?

[ Now his voice is just dripping sarcasm. ]

Well done, everyone. Whoever brought us all here should really have expected these results. It's exactly what human beings do, after all.

[ She has not noticed those yet, Archer. But she does not have the keen gaze of a bowman.

She feels guilty she could not do much when the tree started to shake, she could not reach those with their fragments on the gems in time. ]

Oh, do you wish to pledge your sword to their defense, Saber? The rabbit kittens are currently nestled inside a small burrow dug by their mother.

Who do you take me for? [ If they were lion cubs... ] Rabbits can be potential pests to our food supplies if they multiply without population control.

[ Fortunately for him, she's not clumsy enough to point out that he's not human over the amber where everyone can see. ]

No, but I can help you keep your mouth shut if you've run out of things to hold your attention. I have a long list of chores that need doing now that the tree shook up everything in my little home.

But Rin's safety is hardly your concern. You have an ideal to protect, don't you?

[he was prepared to voice his relief, something that he genuinely felt knowing that Archer was here. and yet his words dismiss that notion once more, gaze narrowing slightly]

I can worry about whoever I want, Archer. [but at least he was here, while he went with Saber to look over everything else that was happening] If Tohsaka is okay, that's all that matters.

But that's exactly what disrupts something abstract and beautiful like "the balance of nature." It's a human desire, after all.

The cycle of nature itself is often thrown off temporarily on its own. Although these present actions admittedly aren't going to help it from getting worse.

That's true. It's really a minor imbalance at this point, but if our fellow residents of the tree continue to play hero, it will get worse.

I did not realize that one litter of rabbits constituted a population explosion, but I'm not an expert in ecological control. Should I have lead Mr. Viper to the burrow instead?

[There's not a trace of sarcasm in her voice--she is all polite inquiry--but she's definitely not in agreement with you here.]

[ There's a pause at her aggressive politeness, and a small, sardonic smile quirks up his mouth. ]

Not at all. Actually, I'd suggest waiting for the litter to grow up, then killing one or two of them for meat and fur. But you wouldn't be interested in that course of action, would you?

And you are an even greater fool if you believe there is not strong sentiment over this among mortals both ways.
