Hey, guys. It looks like there's some new plants springing up around the tree, and I thought this would be a good time to bring up the garden idea again. [She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear, chewing her lip in thought.]

I know most of us want to believe we'll get out of here soon, but we should probably save some of the seeds and grow things for ourselves just in case. Does anyone here know a lot about plants? Recognizing what some of these are would be helpful--not just to eat, but anything that can be used as medicine, too.

Oh, you really seem to be ready to settle in.

Hmph.

[ He pauses a moment, then goes on: ]

The new mushrooms appear to be edible. As for medicine, of course the poppies can produce an anesthetic we can harvest their seeds, though let's not start a drug trade here. Well, there's also the ginger, for indigestion.

Oh, is that so? The seeds of the poppy have since ancient times been perhaps humanity's greatest source of pain-killing and sedative drugs.

[ Looking away from her smile! ]

Naturally, that's also led to untold suffering as a result of conflict over and misuse of the resulting drugs. Everything has its dark side.

Really? Gardening is so boring though. Especially when you have to wait for months for something to happen.

Yeah, sure, I totally dedicated my life to becoming a professional magical gardener!

Heck no. You can't just manipulate life like that.

There's always limits. Especially when it comes to making things older and younger. Sure, you can make living things look like they've aged or de-aged. But you can't actually make it happen. Same applies to plants.

[Ivaera nods, a small smile as it's nice to hear from Korra again.]

I'm no expert, but I've learned a little of herbalism before my arrival. I still have some elfroot for poultices and such, though a steady supply of medicinal herbs would be ideal. If you need more help, I'm willing to do what I can.

Healing poultics, more or less. It won't cure diseases and similar conditions, but battle wounds and crippling injuries can be healed through such means. I can also cast healing spells, but with poultices distributed, it will mean people can heal without my being present.

[Not that there aren't other healers, but still. Might as well make sure there's plenty to go around.]

I know dandelions are edible (which is good because there are so many) and we had some chickweed growing earlier. I think nettles have some kind of medicinal benefits, and the sting can be cooked out of them--they can also be used for fiber, too.

I've noticed some raspberries, too! Perhaps we can dry some once they're ripe and save them for later.

Yes! They'll become even puffier when they go to seed... in fact, we might be able to use that in some way.

Ah, that's an excellent thought. Even an icebox can only keep meat from spoiling for a limited amount of time... what's involved in the process? [Fuu has the vague sense it involves salt or similar preservatives, which they don't have, but there's smoking... which... they can't do anymore.]

I like your idea, although I do not have experience in this field to offer aid.

I don't recognize any of the plants around here, sorry. Some of them look sorta like ones we have back home, but I know better than to think that makes them the same.

My family were farmers, though so if we do want to grow things, I can probably help with that.
