Fuu inspected the new stream. She had already dropped a fragment of leaf in it, watching as it was borne into the mist, and was currently pondering if the same would happen to a person who tried floating in it. It would be a risky experiment--they'd need some kind of raft, and to be a strong swimmer since the tree hadn't been equipped with safety gear like lifevests. (Unless they found that on the next level. Which reminded her, they really needed to sort out that riddle.)

She heard the slithering behind her just in time. Instinct took control and she drew her sword even as she shouted in alarm at the sight of the huge black snake. The massive blade struck its snout and it drew back from its strike with a hiss. Were those fangs?! Fuu hurriedly shoved the gem on its ribbon down her shirt and sprang into the air once her wings appeared. Fenris probably had a point about not overusing their magic equipment, but better that than trying to outrun it or fight it off on her own.

She didn't slow down until she was sure she was too high to reach. The snake flicked its tongue and turned away, but it didn't go back out through the mist. Letting her sword disappear into her glove jewel, Fuu pulled out her amber slice to warn the others of today's danger.

[Fuu is looking quite harried and flustered. The background is moving as though she's flying, because that's what she's doing.

In spite of that, she puts on a big smile.]

Good morning, everyone! I hate to give alarming news, but there's a very large snake visiting us today. It might be poisonous. I think I saw fangs when it tried to eat me... oh, but I'm all right. I was able to give it quite a cut on its nose--hold on.

[The amber flips around to show the snake on the ground.]

I think we should really do something about this before one of us becomes Mr. Snake's breakfast.

[He might be a little more interested than he sounds, since just sitting around was making him stir-crazy. They could just stay inside until the snake went away, but a fight was quite honestly something he needed right now.]

[She looks calm but her voice is urgent. There is no need to say she will assist her and protect her. She is a knight, after all.]

[a massive Snake, was it...? at their size, it was like this girl said. it was only a matter of time before someone was killed by it. and while he was here, and he imagined others that would fight, would have something to say about it. he waits with Saber, looking on as he awaits the location so that he may spring into action to scout out the situation]

I'm above the stream, sort of circling the bend... I'm trying to make sure it sees me so it doesn't take an interest in the tree, but I'm not getting within striking range.

[Eren is sore as hell about stupid magic shenanigans taking his fire and turning it into the world's fattest firefly. He's been sulking in his room, trying to think of ways to get back at the tree. He flips through the amber.

Something to kill? Perfect. That was just what he needed.]

Where are you at, Fuu?

[Eren grabbed the new spear he'd made (out of one of the pieces of wood he'd collected for the fire that he no longer fucking needed) and slipped his gem necklace under his shirt to touch his skin]

I'm still flying above the stream, since that's where the snake is. Do be careful on your way here, Eren.

No one tries to eat the sworn comrade of Owain! Hold fast, my lady... your white knight in leafy armour speeds to your side!

[He is in fact wearing his leaf tunic today; even legendary heroes need to do laundry once in a while. He is also flying toward the tree's nearest exit even before he finishes speaking.]

[Jeez, all of this "and my blade" business, like everyone's Aragorn all of the sudden. Sarah leans a little too close to the amber, brow furrowed.]

We're really rushing to kill it. [she chews on her lower lip] I mean-- [hastily] it's awful that it almost ate you. But we are in the middle of a forest. There are lots of snakes in a forest. [Right? She definitely read that somewhere.] If we leave it alone, won't it just decide there's no food and go away?

Yes, it... looks that way. I would rather not, but I can't lead it away because of the mist. We could try to keep everyone in the tree for a while, but it might find the entrance, and there are children here.

I did try talking to it a few times after I got off the ground, but snakes are deaf... [and it looks like they have a snake-killing posse regardless...] Do you have any ideas, miss?

If we kill it, that means that we'll have enough meat to feed everyone for a long time, right?

[ This seems like the perfect opportunity to show Hak and Jae-Ha his mad skillz. ]

[SHE DIDN'T CONSIDER THAT ACTUALLY... and is sorta reluctant now that Sarah's voiced her objections, but that is a valid point.]

Oh, yes, I suppose we would. I have heard they eat rattlesnakes in America...

. . . You ran into the snake, too? [ Illya had to run really fast from it herself, earlier. ]

Yes, it was quite a shock! Did you get away from it all right?

[Obviously she's not, you know, DEAD but if it bit her before she escaped...]

I'd be able to lend a hand in fighting it, if more help is wanted.

[Even without his wings he can move at inhuman speeds. Surely that can count for something.]

It looks like there's a crowd coming. [a little more than half a dozen, there may be midair collisions...] But if one of us falls, we'll need backup.

What a motley group of heroes and idiots you'll have to assist you.

[ But he's already making his way to a branch to see if he can get a look down at the snake... ]

I'll agree with motley, but having too much help is better than none at all.

I dunno, maybe at least one resident of this place oughta get a decent breakfast.

[ A beat, and then he shakes off the joke-- ]

I'm not sure how much help I'll be against a giant snake, but I'll do my best.

[oh, grim humor! excellent.]

I don't know, I think my armor would probably give it indigestion.

Do you know first aid? Or much about snakebites? We have a lot of people coming to fight it, but I don't know that my healing spell could stretch out over everyone.

Fuu made tight circles in midair above the bend in their brand-new water feature, watching the viper follow her movements. She kept having to dip down to grab its attention again, which was slightly terrifying on her own and probably quite unwise, but she didn't want to risk it finding the entrance to the Tree.

In any case, the others--quite a few others--ought to show up soon. As much as she disliked the idea of killing an animal just because it was dangerous, she still didn't think they could leave it to its own devices.

sneak a fight

Arno took the higher ground. He latched on the the branch above and looked down at his "prey". The snake was very fixated on Fuu, probably hungry for it's next meal. Assassinating it was going to be hard, at least outright.

So he had to weaken it. He had to think fast else this thing WILL eat SOMEONE, Arno wanted to actually avoid that, alright.

Arno knew what he had to do, and he made a dive right from snake to aim his blade into the snake's midsection.
