Arrival of winter

20th: As temperatures plummet, an inch of snowfall accumulates on the ground around the Tree. It is hardy a hindrance to most of the forest’s inhabitants, but the Adventurers will find the drifts come above their knees.

In addition, the water outside the Tree has frozen. The stream winding its way through the mist is now covered with thick ice. It may not stand up to human feet. But for little fairy feet, it’s a steady (if slippery) walking surface.

21st: A familiar little girl passed by earlier. Abigail has left behind tiny doll ice-skates for the faeries! They’re a bit too big but can be remodeled.

Unicorn Grove

Today, the mist turns clear rather than hazy as something beautiful and pure moves through the forest. A horse-like white creature with cloven hooves and a lion's tail walk to the clearing by the tree, shyly peeking out from the dense foliage before coming out into the open.

Her blue eyes radiate kindness and innocence as her white fur glow in the sunlight, and she leans her head down by the stream to drink.

The Royal Court

The destination is set, and the wagon gems have shone green to tell that they are ready. It was time for another journey into the wilds to find a key to an unknown lock.

...and to deal with a royal court deep within the ground.

Amber
 Ah... pardon me.

Last week people got food poisoning... and now some sort of sickness has -

[COUGH COUGH HACK HACK. Gosh, ain't that pretty.]

... well, you know.

Anyway... I was wondering, if this keeps up... Do we have any healers, or at least magic-wielders with healing spells? ... Or just plain old doctors? In the future, if we ever come down with something more serious -

[COUGH COUGH. Ewwww.]

... More serious, or we suffer bad injuries, we should be aware of who to contact right away.

Amber
[Owain's face appears in the amber, with the mist barrier not far off in the background, but he is uncharacteristically quiet at first. He looks at the amber, then up and around at his surroundings, then back, seeming somewhat uncertain.]

...So is this working now?

DAY DESTINATION

It's early in the morning when the wagon finally stops, and the adventurers have finally reached their destination after traveling far into the forest. They now find themselves in front of a dark, strange cave, just large enough for them to enter. The rats refuse to move any further, lying down to rest as the adventurers get a moment to check the cave out.

What soon draws the attention is a small gleam from somewhere in the cave, as if a beam of sunlight had been reflected from a metal surface. The light resonates with the ambers, showing the picture of the crystal sword that had been seen on the mirror shard. Breaking apart again, two pieces fade away, showing only the guard of the sword.

When explored, the cave reaches pretty far in before it suddenly splits off in six different directions. Each of these will only fit one person, and if they enter the new path, it will close behind them. It seems they're in for a challenge that might be difficult to handle.

Somewhere inside is a piece of this puzzle.

JOURNEY OF THE DAY

The small wagon pulled by the white and brown rat leaves the mist and sets the direction to the east. Moving in a decent pace meant for distance rather than speed, the adventurers' transport turns in towards a small path that will take them far through the undergrowth.

The adventure begins!

+2 - Quest Preparation - amber and action
Ladies and gentlemen, if I may have your attention?

As most of you are aware, the Mirror has recently shown us a new riddle. I believe that this may be our key to healing the Tree and returning the Life Stream to normal. If the Tree’s servant is trapped, it is our duty to free them.

I realize that the last quest to free one of the Tree’s servants was dangerous. This one may be too. Please don’t feel the need to participate if you cannot abide the risk.

I would like to discuss plans before we begin the expedition. If you have knowledge of driving a wagon, or are involved in food storage, please come find me by the wagons outside, or respond by amber. Also, we will need to arrange for the division of our defense forces between the wagons and the Tree.

I have put up a bulletin near the Mirror. If you agree to accompany us, please sign your name there.

Let’s join our talents to heal the Tree. I look forward to working with each of you.

[After sending the message, Orcelito can be found outside examining the wagons. He’ll keep his amber stone close at hand.]

Amber
HARK, fellow denizens of the tree!

[The amber shows a quick view of the quest mirror; it's not close enough to make out the words on it, but there are definitely words there. The image then whips around to Owain's grinning face.]

Behold, the Mirror Shard of Secret Mystery awakens! The hour of our redemption is at hand, and upon my mighty blade, I swear we shall not be thwarted a second time! See, luckily for everyone, I've totally got that last line covered.

[He holds up a rough piece of tree-made paper. The words WEAPON NAMES adorn the top, and scrawled below them, taking up every available bit of space, is a barely-legible list of names. Some have exclamation points. Some have several exclamation points. One has crude flames drawn around it, and another appears to have lightning bolts shooting out of it.]

"Those that serve have earned the right of a name." So sayeth the Mirror! ...Okay, so I dunno who "those that serve" are, but if we just name everything we're bound to get them named too, right? [He pulls his list back and looks it over.] Now, most of these names are for weapons, true, but a lot of them'll work for other things. Flamenugget would be good for a firefly... ooh, and Storm Tempest would be great for one of the baby birds. And there are plenty more where these came from! [He taps his head.]

So GO FORTH, heroes of fairy-dom, and name all you lay eyes upon! And if you need ideas, I'm your man! [With that, he looks as though he's going to set the amber down... then abruptly catches himself as he remembers something else.] --Oh, and if anyone wants to contribute to the Master List of Epic Names... [He flips his list around. The other side is also full, except for a bit of space along one edge.] ...I could probably fit two or three more on here.

[He salutes with the hand that is still holding the paper.] Owain, AWAY!
