Glimmer, glitter, shine...

One by one, new adventurers now arrive in the Tree. As one gain wings and rises to the second floor, another light brings in the next person. Soon, a steady stream of people from all kinds of worlds, times and realities come to join the others. Whether confused, angry, excited or scared, your arrival is welcomed with nothing but joy as the fireflies and glow worms descend to greet their new friends.

The Tree offers no explanation and no reason, but the truth is undeniable.

As you will soon realize, it isn't easy to be tiny.

[She relaxes a little more, looking much more confused than angry now. That's definitely not what "cool" meant last time, but she's more inclined to believe a child about this sort of thing that she is to believe a single word said by the puffed-up, incoherent nonsense-spouting One-Eyed Dragon of Oshuu.]

Well, that is true. Is that really what it thinks?

[She doesn't speak bug. All she can tell is that it looks creepy and it's too close. Even now it's hovering around them.]

[ That she relaxes a little serves to help him relax a lot. Preventing a firefly murder wasn't something he'd ever imagined on his accomplishment list, but now that it's apparently happening, Steven doesn't mind too much. He offers a tentative smile. ]

I don't know if that's exactly what it thinks. But I do know that everyone's been really friendly, including all the bugs! [ He'll reach up to pat it once, when its hovering brings it a little closer to his side. ] Sooo maybe you don't need to worry about fighting anything in here right now.

I guess there's no need to be unnecessarily violent.

[She returns her sword to its place on her back. If worse comes to worse, she could always punch the bug. Not that she's particularly interested in touching it.]

I don't want to pet it, though. It isn't cute in the slightest.

[Just pointing that out.]

That's okay! I can pet him enough for two people. [ A fact that he'll gladly demonstrate as he talks, clearly relieved that he didn't have to watch any firefly murders today. ] You can just worry about making friends and not stabbing anyone and stuff. We can keep cool and settle in and try to figure out what's going on together.

[Naotora watches as he pets the firefly, not particularly moved by the sight. It doesn't make the thing look any less...buggy. It has beady buggy eyes and a creepy bug mouth and no way of expressing itself that she can determine. No, bugs are clearly inferior pets.]

I'll make friends with people not...bugs.

[Though that wasn't exactly her intention upon arriving here. Really, she just wants to get back to what she was doing before this nonsense started.]

Are you saying you don't know what's going on, either?

[ It's about on par with hanging around an acid-spitting centipede thing, as far as aesthetic appeal goes. ]

Yeah. Sorry. I've been trying to work on it, but I don't really know where to start asking. Either someone doesn't know either or I don't get an answer at all.

Well, someone must know something. Who's the lord of this castle? Doesn't he have servants somewhere? We can't have all been summoned here and left to our own devices. What if someone decides to steal something?

[That would be a problem. Come to think of it, though, she hasn't seen anyone who doesn't look a bit confused. There also don't seem to be anyone wearing the crest of any lords she recognizes. Even if this were some foreign castle, she should at least see someone indicating which lord they serve.]

[ Those are actually really valid questions. Maybe he should try upping his investigation game and think about important things like that. ]

What... what would we try to steal? I don't think we can run away or anything.

There's always something to steal in a castle. Weapons...treasure...

[She manages to catch herself before she elaborates on that. This is a child, after all. He doesn't need to be burdened with that sort of thing. In fact, the less he knows about it, the better. Maybe he'll grow up to be a better person that way.]

B-but let's not think about that! We should make sure no one else steals anything! I'm sure if we're polite guests everything will go much better.

Super polite thief-stopping guests! Maybe it's even why we're here, if the tree's really a castle. That could be pretty interesting! [ It mostly seems tree-ish, but he's not exactly an expert. ] And I can definitely see why they'd want you and your sword around for that.

Of course! If you need something protected, there's no one better to ask than a woman!

[Really, if you need anything done, there's no one better to ask. Men are completely unreliable, after all. They're especially unreliable when it comes to protecting castles, though. That she can say with confidence.]

Hmm. [ Like. When he weighs up the pros and cons of asking Sadie or Lars to guard something instead of both of them at once, he kinda has to admit Sadie has better lifting and fish-murdering skills. ] I can see where you're coming from. I help keep humanity safe from monsters back home, but the Gems handle all the sword-fighting and punching stuff. And they're usually girls!

[ Unless Amethyst doesn't want to be...? The hypotheticals are always so tough. ]

[Naotora nods enthusiastically. This boy really does understand and she can't help but appreciate him for that. In fact, she might actually pat him on the head. That deserves a pat on the head.]

That's how it should be! You should listen to them and I'm sure you'll grow up very well.

Oh, good. I'm not a huge fan of growing up, but doing it well doesn't sound too bad! [ He's down for a head pat, sure. ] It's too bad none of them are here, though. I bet you guys would get along great!
