Glimmer, glitter, shine...

One by one, new adventurers now arrive in the Tree. As one gain wings and rises to the second floor, another light brings in the next person. Soon, a steady stream of people from all kinds of worlds, times and realities come to join the others. Whether confused, angry, excited or scared, your arrival is welcomed with nothing but joy as the fireflies and glow worms descend to greet their new friends.

The Tree offers no explanation and no reason, but the truth is undeniable.

As you will soon realize, it isn't easy to be tiny.

[Judar rolls his eyes and waves a hand absently.]

Eh, it'll melt. It's not like I can just dispel it.

[He shrugs. Magic doesn't work like that. You can't just make something disappear once you make it. Ice freezes from water in the air, so if you want it to go away, you have to melt it or evaporate it and whatever is screwing up his gravity magic is screwing up his heat magic, too. He figured that out pretty quickly and it's not doing anything for his mood.]

Maybe if you give it a greeeeeat big hug.

[Little moron sounds dumb enough to do it, after all.]

[ nai is indeed naive enough to believe such a solution will work, so he looks down at the block of ice in his hands, he hunches over and wraps his arms around it as tightly as he can. ] It's okay, Mr. Glowy...! You'll get better.

[ not two minutes have passed and already he's getting that feeling that usually ends up in someone getting hurt or varuga appearing or generally terrible things happening—that 'bad' feeling. this older boy isn't doing anything but sitting there so why does nai feel this way? regardless, right now there's a glowing ball of light to be rescued. ]

You're seriously doing it?! Wow, that's dumb enough that it makes me want to see if it'll actually work!

[It's enough to actually catch his attention for the moment, at least. He turns to see better, interested to see how this is all going to play out. It is just normal ice, after all. Can bugs survive being frozen for a while? They're usually so small that it's not worth his trouble to see what happens. When you have the power to decimate countries, you don't exactly need to resort to frying ants with a magnifying glass.]

[ you bet he's doing it, and with quiet a bit of concentration. he squeezes his eyes shut as tightly as he's hugging the ice, and despite the discomfort from how cold and numbing it is, he doesn't let go. he's going to earn himself a damp shirt and shivers by the end of this, but it's for a good cause.

hopefully. the hugging isn't actually helping, of course. ]

[It's kind of cute, you have to admit. He's not the sort to make this sort of situation worse just to screw with someone. If the kid pulls it off, he pulls it off.]

Do you just do what everyone tells you to do?

[It's less cute if that's the case, which is why he feels the need to ask.]

[ nai peeks up as best he can when he hears the question. the older boy is smiling now but it's not a very comforting smile, and the question itself is a tad confusing. ] Tell me...? But if I don't do this, I can't get it out! It'll be cold and get sick.

[ so yes and no? ]

You really care about that stupid thing? It's just a bug. There are millions more of them, you know.

[Same goes for people, really. Maybe if it were a more interesting bug, he'd have more of an interest in keeping it alive, but it's just a big firefly. There are a ton more in the room, let alone in the world. It's not like you can tell the difference between two of them.]

[ he shakes his head adamantly before lowering it again, wanting every bit of warmth available for the ice. it's difficult for him to voice the thoughts in his head but he tries his best, like he always does. ] But still, this one...! All the bugs, they're not the same.

You remind me of a guy I know. It's annoying.

[The question is what to do about that. It's always the same question when dealing with the midget, too. He's capable of killing them if he wants and he won't hesitate to do it if it's necessary, but it's the times when the idea occurs to him and it's not necessary that it's a dilemma. Too bad this one probably can't put up the same sort of fight.]

At least you're too dumb to give a big speech about it. I'd really have to waste you if you tried that.

[ it would absolutely be a disappointing fight if he chose nai as his opponent, but such a situation isn't on his mind, not yet anyway. the older boy speaks more phrases that aren't easy to understand, so nai doesn't say anything at first. he'd rather concentrate on saving the firefly, but even he can see that it isn't working. so after a minute, he peeks up again. ] ... You really can't make the ice go away?

I already told you I can't. It's not like I made it out of nothing.

[He shrugs. It's not like it's his problem.]

That stupid pillar of light is messing with my magic somehow, so I can't use heat, so I guess you're screwed. Too bad. Find another weird bug.

[Like he said, there's a ton of them.]

Uuu... [ not the answer he was hoping for and so his expression falls once again. he tightens his arms around the ice and sadly watches the bug trapped inside until something occurs to him. he picks his head up to the 'pillar of light,' staring at it with wide eyes. maybe...

he shuffles a little closer and moves the block of ice from his lap to the edge of where the light reaches. this light has made him feel warm and safe ever since coming here, so maybe it'll do something to help the firefly too. it's a simple idea from a simple mind, but nai believes it'll work. ]

Huh? What do you think's gonna happen if you try that?

[He sits up straighter and watches with interest. Who knows? Maybe something actually might happen. It feels like a solid pillar of white Rukh, after all. There's no reason why something couldn't happen. Or maybe the kid could drop the thing and have it fall to the first floor and shatter. That would get the bug out of the ice, at least. Probably flatten it, too.]

[ he looks over at the question. ] Um...this light is really nice and warm. Maybe it will help make the ice go away because it's hurting Mr. Glowy.

[ not even a 'maybe it'll melt the ice,' just 'maybe it'll help.' better this than for nai to actually drop the ice and cause some damage. ]

Heh. Maybe it will. Maybe it'll just fry the thing. Who knows?

[It's not like he cares. Might be interesting to see what the pillar is capable of, though. If it can undo his magic somehow, that could be a problem. He's pretty sure it's why he can't use Heat or Lightning Magic. Probably why his Gravity Magic is screwed up, too, though that might also be the weird rocks on the first floor.]

[ his hands remain on the top of the ice, and his expression turns into one of confusion. ] Fry? Is that bad?

[ or is it good? who knows. ] This light won't do anything bad, right?

I already told you I don't know what it's gonna do, but no, it's not gonna do anything bad. That's what's so annoying about that stupid thing.

[ nai watches him and then thinks on that as best he can. he doesn't understand why something like this warm light would be 'annoying.' as long as it doesn't do this 'frying' thing. he soon returns his attention to the block of ice, gripping it tightly with his hands. if gareki or yogi or tsukumo were here, they'd know what to do to save the firefly.

a few fireflies approach nai and linger close to him, or perhaps close to the beam of light, but he speaks to them as if they came for him. ] Ah... I'm sorry. Your friend will get better, okay?
