LIGHT

Warmth, love and kindness.
The Life Stream glimmers and glitters with joy, swirls of shimmering dust dancing around the ray of life.
It was time for new ones to test their wings.


One by one, new adventurers now arrive in the Tree. As one gain wings and rises to the second floor, another light brings in the next person. Soon, a steady stream of people from all kinds of worlds, times and realities come to join the others. Whether confused, angry, excited or scared, your arrival is welcomed with nothing but joy as the fireflies and glow worms descend to greet their new friends.

The Tree offers no explanation and no reason, but the truth is undeniable.

As you will soon realize, it isn't easy to be tiny.

Kyle looked wounded. "I assure you, madam, that my designs on you are entirely fair! Seriously, though, you're not seeing anyone right now, are you?"

Well, at least she was mad at him now and not that poor bug. "So what can I call you? You gonna stick around for a while? Maybe we could catch dinner and get a little better acquainted."

"D-designs?!"

What sort of man would dare to be this forward? She's inclined to say that she has no name to give to one such as him, but perhaps it would be a better choice to let him know that she's not one to be trifled with.

"You can forget whatever base desires you think you'll get a chance to act on because I, Naotora Ii, will accept no suitors who --" Oh no, she actually said "suitors," "Who...would make passes at women they've just met!"

She could feel her cheeks burning, but just because she was blushing, that didn't mean she couldn't be filled with righteous anger! Right?!

"Well, that is what they call 'em where I come from." Kyle seemed to take Naotora's reaction in stride for some reason. Maybe he was used to it...

"Naotora, huh? I like the sound of that. My name's Kyle. Or Sir Kyle, if you prefer, but I'm off duty at the moment! Very pleased to make your acquaintance!"

"A warrior is never 'off duty.' I pity whatever lord you serve."

Naotora put her sword away, but only because she wanted to cross her arms. It was times like these she wished she had a smaller, more convenient weapon. Not that there was a weapon that she was more suited to than a great sword, but it was a bit cumbersome.

"You know, you sound a lot like one of my old fellow Knights." Actually, maybe he didn't want to go into Alenia right now, who was kinda sorta dead.

"Anyway, technically speaking, I don't actually serve a lord, more like a l... uh. Queen."

"Then I pity her even more. Nothing is worse than being served by ineffectual, frivolous, lecherous men."

The men in her service know better than to try the "lecherous" part, but there's very little that she's managed to accomplish to counteract the "ineffectual" part. Mostly, they all just cower and whimper and fall over a lot. It's a terrible embarrassment to send them into battle. This is why any serious conflict is handled by the Nadeshiko Brigade.

"Hey, I'm very effectual, I'll have you know!" Apparently Kyle didn't mind the other two epithets.

"Anyway, I don't think she'd be too happy knowing someone was throwing their pity around at her. I mean, she might be a demanding little tomboy, but she is royalty. She can make whatever staffing decisions she wants." Kinda rude, Naotora.

"I'm sure if she had the chance, she would find someone more suitable for the job. It's surprising you can keep your head attached to your shoulders if you talk about your lord in such a way."

She isn't really in the habit of executing people herself, but she's very good a throwing around threats.

He shrugged; it was fine with Kyle if she underestimated him. "Hey, least I don't go around threatening bugs. See ya around!"

And then he was off to go cause trouble somewhere else.
