LIGHT

Warmth, love and kindness.
The Life Stream glimmers and glitters with joy, swirls of shimmering dust dancing around the ray of life.
It was time for new ones to test their wings.


One by one, new adventurers now arrive in the Tree. As one gain wings and rises to the second floor, another light brings in the next person. Soon, a steady stream of people from all kinds of worlds, times and realities come to join the others. Whether confused, angry, excited or scared, your arrival is welcomed with nothing but joy as the fireflies and glow worms descend to greet their new friends.

The Tree offers no explanation and no reason, but the truth is undeniable.

As you will soon realize, it isn't easy to be tiny.

Neither was I! It doesn't really look like anybody here was, so at least we're not alone. [ He brings a hand to his chin thoughtfully. ] Still, I guess you could say it's pretty unfairy that everyone got brought here so unprepared.

[ That is an awful pun worthy of Bucky himself - and he's easily amused. He grins. ]

I don't know. You're doin' all right. [ a beat ] So, where're you from?

[gempathic]

I'm from a little place called Beach City. [ He says "a little place," but he says it in that way that means he thinks it's the coolest. Even though it... kind of is an actual little place. ] Oh, and it's on Earth. What about you?

— Never heard of it, sorry.

[ Hometown pride is the best though. Four for you, Steven. ]

Brooklyn, New York. Also on Earth.

[ That last sentence, he never thought he'd have to say one day. ]

[gempathic]

Don't beat yourself up. I figure out I haven't heard of stuff all the time. [ Like where New York is, exactly. That's probably the drawback to having never been in school. But whatevs. ] My name's Steven.

[ It's a common enough name, but still he subtly tenses, still smiling. ]

Nice t'meet ya, Steven of Beach City. James Barnes.

[gempathic]

Nice to meet you too, James! [ He notices the little increase in tension, but pinpointing what caused it is a lot more difficult than just noticing. People can be complicated like that. ] Try not to let the tree thing get you down too much. I don't know what we're doing here, but it's been a pretty cool place so far! And I bet you'll be great at making friends with the glow worms. You've got a really glow-wormy vibe.

[ A brief smile, mischievous. The simplicity of Steven's words appeals to him deeply - only so much you can let the situation get to you before just accepting it and moving on. But the rut's here, and deeper than he knows. ]

Oh? And what if I'm a firefly kinda fella?

[gempathic]

If you're a firefly guy, then I'll just be the glow worm guy. You know, since I don't have anything against them. [ He shrugs. ] We'll compromise.

[ He grins. ]

Just messin' with ya. How about we try seein' which one suits us both. [ a small hmm as he looks over the firefly ] That one looks like a 'Dodger', don't ya think?

[gempathic]

He does have the agility for it. It's important to name for what they're already like, otherwise they'll probably get insecure about it. [ Hm. ] Maybe I'll find a worm to name after Lars. We've got a complicated friendship, and sometimes he's a jerk, but he can be pretty underappreciated.

[ Insecure? Ok the conversation has officially hit his threshold for ridiculous, and his smile turns wry. ]

Who's Lars?

[gempathic]

A friend of mine. He works at the Big Donut. It's the best donut place in Beach City! And I'm not just saying that because it's the only donut place in Beach City. It comes from the heart. Anyway, he'd probably like that I named something after him before anyone else. We've got a deep understanding.

[ If Steven looks into his heart, he'll know that to be untrue. Lars likes almost nothing. Or he likes a lot of things but doesn't want to admit it. Teen angst is far too complicated. ]

Well in that case, seems like this fella would make a good Lars. Wonder if he does tricks?
