| summary | A flash of light, and a new adventure.

LIGHT

Warmth, love and kindness.
The Life Stream glimmers and glitters with joy, swirls of shimmering dust dancing around the ray of life.
It was time for new ones to test their wings.

One by one, new adventurers now arrive in the Tree. As one gain wings and rises to the second floor, another light brings in the next person. Soon, a steady stream of people from all kinds of worlds, times and realities come to join the others. Whether confused, angry, excited or scared, your arrival is welcomed with nothing but joy as the fireflies and glow worms descend to greet their new friends.

The Tree offers no explanation and no reason, but the truth is undeniable.

As you will soon realize, it isn't easy to be tiny.

"I thank you, though returning now is an impossibility."

He hums thoughtfully, struck by an interesting question.

"Do I retain rank in death? Perhaps I am just 'Yoshitsugu' now."

Something about that thought is pleasing, though Yoshitsugu can't quite put his finger on why. Perhaps being known as a man of rank makes it harder to tease and spin his usual enjoyable tales? Maybe...

He prevents himself from wincing. So the dead did come here.

'Dyin' doesn't make you less of a warrior, if you don't mind me speaking freely.' He's still a sergeant, and will remain one until his days here end. Just how it is: one more thread in the skein that's James Barnes.

"Speak as freely as you wish. I am not your officer."

Yoshitsugu shrugs. What he says next is said in a slightly more cheerful tone.

"A fellow warrior, perhaps. When I first joined an army as a samurai I was a foot soldier. The flow was kind enough to sweep me up the ranks in time; it was nothing but the whims of fate that left me in that position."

It is a little odd that he can value himself so little but be content with it. Yoshitsugu judges those who think highly of him as being rather hopeless, but isn't that how people are through and through, in one way or another?
