Glimmer, glitter, shine...

| characters | Everyone!

| summary | A flash of light, and a new adventure.

LIGHT

Warmth, love and kindness.
The Life Stream glimmers and glitters with joy, swirls of shimmering dust dancing around the ray of life.
It was time for new ones to test their wings.

One by one, new adventurers now arrive in the Tree. As one gain wings and rises to the second floor, another light brings in the next person. Soon, a steady stream of people from all kinds of worlds, times and realities come to join the others. Whether confused, angry, excited or scared, your arrival is welcomed with nothing but joy as the fireflies and glow worms descend to greet their new friends.

The Tree offers no explanation and no reason, but the truth is undeniable.

As you will soon realize, it isn't easy to be tiny.

Dead indeed. Without obligation on his shoulders anymore, nor an expectation of being able to return to where he came from, there is even less reason for Yoshitsugu to approach this situation with panic or concern.

"Then I expect there are, at the very least, beds waiting us somewhere."

Which was fine by him. Yoshitsugu was a man who appreciated good sleep, and if they were going to be here for a while then it was surely one of their primary concerns.

Somewhere beneath his facecloth, he smiled a little. The expression just about reached his eyes.

"How long before most consider things like sleep and food, do you think?"

Right now a lot of his fellow abductees seemed stuck on the 'why' question.

He nods. 'There are, upstairs. Empty rooms.' Which he'd found suspicious, since they'd been beautifully made, and obviously intended for long-term residents. Not sure he likes the implications of those - for people like him, well, it ain't like there's anything to go back to. But he doesn't want to assume everyone here is dead as well. Some of 'em are kids, and while he's no stranger to the harsher realities of the world, it just ain't right that kids should be here too.

'Couple hours, depending.' He himself is always hungry, side effect of being a supersoldier. It's worse in Steve. 'When's the last time you ate?'

Beds and rooms, homes for a captive population that, at the very least, whatever brought them here wants to keep healthy.

"Many hours ago."

It will likely want to keep them well fed as well. If they have truly been shrunk then meals of the kind they are used to are out of the question; one berry will be much more than a snack. What of meat? Will they even get any, or will they find themselves served a feast on insects?

The thought does not repulse Yoshitsugu. It will just be a new experience in this new 'life,' or whatever it might be called.

"Battle rations don't make the most enjoyable last meal; no doubt anything we are served here shall be a delight in comparison."

Battle rations? Now that catches his interest, as he looks over Yoshitsugu looking for any injuries. The man certainly has the bearing of a warrior, but not one overtly ill-tempered or explosive. He looks Japanese too, but Bucky's never had an especial hatred. Pearl Harbor was unprovoked and tragic, certainly, but in war everybody picks their side, and the Japs threw in with Hitler.

'It'll be better'n the trenches that's for sure,' he replies. 'james Barnes. Sergeant with the 107th Infantry Division. What about you?'

"Ōtani Yoshitsugu, strategist and one of the commanding officers for the Western Army in Japan."

He bows his head politely, before offering what is at least a partial explanation.

"A period of civil war has left my country split into two, though that shall not be the case for much longer."

Once thing he doesn't do is dig for any more details from this James Barnes, though he does take note of the 'sergeant.' That part at least is useful to know, and familiar.

Bucky's never been one to stand on ceremony: just because a man's an officer doesn't make him automatically worthy of respect. Even so, he gets to his feet, and nods politely. in return.

'Pleasure t'meet you sir. All the best in your campaign.'

"I thank you, though returning now is an impossibility."

He hums thoughtfully, struck by an interesting question.

"Do I retain rank in death? Perhaps I am just 'Yoshitsugu' now."

Something about that thought is pleasing, though Yoshitsugu can't quite put his finger on why. Perhaps being known as a man of rank makes it harder to tease and spin his usual enjoyable tales? Maybe...

He prevents himself from wincing. So the dead did come here.

'Dyin' doesn't make you less of a warrior, if you don't mind me speaking freely.' He's still a sergeant, and will remain one until his days here end. Just how it is: one more thread in the skein that's James Barnes.

"Speak as freely as you wish. I am not your officer."

Yoshitsugu shrugs. What he says next is said in a slightly more cheerful tone.

"A fellow warrior, perhaps. When I first joined an army as a samurai I was a foot soldier. The flow was kind enough to sweep me up the ranks in time; it was nothing but the whims of fate that left me in that position."

It is a little odd that he can value himself so little but be content with it. Yoshitsugu judges those who think highly of him as being rather hopeless, but isn't that how people are through and through, in one way or another?
