Glimmer, glitter, shine...

LIGHT
Warmth, love and kindness.
The Life Stream glimmers and glitters with joy, swirls of shimmering dust dancing around the ray of life.
It was time for new ones to test their wings.

One by one, new adventurers now arrive in the Tree. As one gain wings and rises to the second floor, another light brings in the next person. Soon, a steady stream of people from all kinds of worlds, times and realities come to join the others. Whether confused, angry, excited or scared, your arrival is welcomed with nothing but joy as the fireflies and glow worms descend to greet their new friends.
The Tree offers no explanation and no reason, but the truth is undeniable.
As you will soon realize, it isn't easy to be tiny.

Terpsichora Ll'wen | FFXIV oc
Soon as she's on that second floor (after a lot of work and near collisions), however...She settles herself down right in the middle of proceedings and begins to promptly search her pockets for something.]
...--is it...Need to find stupid...Ugh! [That's not helping; she must've dropped it. Maybe someone's picked it up, or tried nicking it and she can intimidate the culprit into giving it back? Why wouldn't she have it on her person? And so, lucky you whoever you may be, here is a huge woman with a pair of glorified knuckle dusters slung around her hips, reaching out to stop whoever happens close enough by!
She, uh. She doesn't look very happy, but at least she looks more confused or frustrated than actually angry.] Oi. Am looking for whistle; little wooden thing, plays only one note. Need this.

"A whistle? For calling something?" Or maybe it was simply for alarms. In any case, he could understand how even humble personal items could hold great value for their owner.
"I haven't seen one." But he also hadn't been looking, either. "...I can help you look."

Massiveness aside, at the very least Chora's got the presence of mind to stop manhandling Kaoru; that's not the way to go making contacts in a new place, is it? Might as well try to, uh....Make...Nice?
"...Yes. Could say this. Is very important right now to find whistle, but--" And here she stops, squints at him as if he's just started talking another language. How peculiar. "Have no reward on hand; could not repay you for work. Is no point to this job, sorry."
Yep, she's one of those sorts.
no subject
"If it's important, then we should find it," he said, rubbing at the spot where Chora had gotten hold of him. Probably his shoulder or something; he was pretty short compared to her.
"You can pay me back if I lose something."
no subject
Despite having noted Kaoru's clear discomfort (mild or no) from her previous manhandling, Chora practically snatches his hand up in hers and begins to tug. ...At least she's trying to be a little gentler? Little fleshy humans can break pretty easily, she's found. "Ah, forgot to mention; has small cord attached, so can put around wrist. Very surprising that it is lost, in honesty."
She looks over her shoulder and grimaces apologetically, feeling stupider still for having managed to lose it despite so many security measures in place. "Thanks. Really appreciate help; will not be good if cannot find whistle. Best to start at place where we arrive, I think; seems good idea to you?"
no subject
"That sounds reasonable. We can retrace your steps from there. If it fell into a crevice somewhere, the cord will make it easier."

Chora has apparently just grabbed a giant, weird-looking chocobo, and after a good few seconds of staring in slack-jawed confusion...She suddenly, hesitantly pats his head instead. Christ almighty Chora you're awful don't pat the polite young manbird on the head that's disrespectful.] ...Ha. Ha, have...Have never met talking one. Very cute--
Ahem. Are not my Mere, so still need to search. [That's her way of saying 'sorry buddy, back on topic' before she proceeds to upend her pockets. A velvet sachet, two little clay pots corked tightly, a rolled up wad of cloth...But no whistle.] Ugh...Probably stupid question, but ser Chocobo: have seen pink bird about same size, maybe bigger? In red black barding?
no subject
[oooh fascinating strange things. he's a gent though he's not touching them.]
Actually I'm a dove, not a chocobo. I don't 'wark', unless asked very nicely! And, no, sorry, haven't seen any here.
no subject
Well, thanks all s-- Hold on. [Cue dramatic Ace Attorney-esque pointing; she mightn't seem the brightest but on some topics, she doesn't miss a trick.] You are Eorzean then? To know of Chocobos? How sly, Ser.
no subject
[She reminds him of Hiyoko right off the bat, though Hiyoko is more erudite. ...and, he plays videogames, but judges discretion is the better part of valor. He curls his neck cutely.] I am not! It's only that word of what they're like has spread far and wide, including the country I hail from.

Ah, um... [ 'wooden thing'? ] What's a whistle?
no subject
Do not know whistle? Is...[Ah man how the hell do you explain a whistle? What the hell. She actually stops and deliberates over this for a second, before tapping a finger to her lips and pursing them.] Is instrument that makes noise, like when this is done--
[And she blows a raspberry. No, that's not right.]
...Cannot actually whistle. But shrill, high note made normally with lips; use wood whistle instead. Big as your tiny Hyur finger maybe. Like...Like flute! Yes, like flute but only one note!
no subject
[ she may want to begin with explaining what an instrument is. but as far as tiny wooden things goβ ] I don't know... We can go find it together!
no subject
Not that Chora realises this at all; nope, she just looks deflated when it clicks that she's just succeeded in confusing him even more.] Never was good at explaining; apologies for this. Will show you if ever find whistle, okay? But...Do not have money for job; cannot offer you reward for assistance. Is how things work, so could not shortchange you.
Is very nice to offer, however. Appreciate this very much. [Hesitantly, she reaches out to pat Nai on the head; even when she's trying to be gentle, it's almost as if she's scared of touching him at all.] Did not think sprout like you would not be afraid of me, either; very impressive that you are so brave.

What's...shortchange? Do I need it to find the whistle?

Kinda makes him homesick. ]
Sorry, I haven't seen any whistles around here. Do you need help looking? 'cause I bet I can get under some chairs or something! [ And, on a second thought: ] Oh, and what note does it play?
no subject
And then that barrage starts, and she goes from hesitantly awkward nice to bewildered in 0.3 seconds flat.]
Uh-- Wait! Wait. [That is too many questions for her just wanting to know if this kid's seen her whistle, and she realises all too late that she's already started to break out in purple blotches of embarrassment for not being able to answer immediately. Being around people really can be hard sometimes, gods.] ...Appreciate enthusiastic offer, but have no reward to offer for assistance. Would not put someone to work without payment! And, ah-- Do...Not...Know music enough to know notes. Just sounds like normal whistle, when calling animals; this is help or no?
no subject
I don't need you to pay me or anything, though. I just figured, since we're both probably new to this tree thing, and it sounds like you really need it... maybe there's a stick around that we can carve. In case your whistle really is gone.
no subject
Things will be bad! [Instead of throwing herself on the ground like she wants to deep down, instead she just claws at her face and groans pathetically. It's not much, but she's at least trying to keep from freaking Steven out because no one needs that when he's, like he said, 'new at this tree thing' too. Breathe in, out, in, out...There we go. Just gotta remember that things are a little bit messed up and jumbly for everyone.]
Sorry, is just...New whistle will not do. Only this one; no other will work. Have no Gysahl greens at hand...Was only other way to do this, and means he is alone. No one will feed or train him; do not know what will happen if he is not here.
no subject
Luckily, or at least a bit in this context, he got to the tree pretty fresh off of the fallout of an unexpected emotional outburst situation. They're not totally similar outburst situations, but upset people aren't strictly a new endeavor. It helps that she didn't punch anything. ]
So... it's sort of like a special dog whistle no one else has? I can see why that would be important to you. [ And at that, he'll extend a hand towards her to shake. ] Don't worry, okay? My name's Steven, and if your whistle's in here anywhere, I'm gonna help you find it. No charge!

Um, sorry. I haven't seen a whistle. All I've got's this.
[Kit pulled an odd, ring-shaped flute-like instrument out of one of her belt pouches, holding it where the tall woman can see it.]
It can play lots of notes, though.
no subject
Ah! Ah, Miqo'te! Hello! [As if that's going to help anything anyway, Chora. God. Still, at least she suddenly breaks out into an awkward smile and squats to better talk to Kit without hurting her neck.] ...Have not seen instrument like this; do not suppose it summons Chocobos? If not, is still impressive to play such things; do not know instrument past whistle, and am bad at this even so.
no subject
I'm sorry, but I think you've made a mistake. My name's Wily-Kit, not Miqo'te.
[In fact, the term is clearly unfamiliar to her, given the hesitant way she says it.]
And my flupe doesn't summon anything as far as I know. But it does have a little magic. I can show you if you want.
no subject
Oh! Would really want to play flute for stranger, and show off magic? Is...Is very kind. [She's not sure what else to say to that, considering she can't really offer payment or much knowledge about magic or...Anything constructive, really. Instead, she just sits down on the ground, hugs her knees to her chest, and smiles awkwardly.] If is not much bother, would love hearing this. Might still call him to me, who knows?
