LIGHT

Warmth, love and kindness.
The Life Stream glimmers and glitters with joy, swirls of shimmering dust dancing around the ray of life.
It was time for new ones to test their wings.


One by one, new adventurers now arrive in the Tree. As one gain wings and rises to the second floor, another light brings in the next person. Soon, a steady stream of people from all kinds of worlds, times and realities come to join the others. Whether confused, angry, excited or scared, your arrival is welcomed with nothing but joy as the fireflies and glow worms descend to greet their new friends.

The Tree offers no explanation and no reason, but the truth is undeniable.

As you will soon realize, it isn't easy to be tiny.

[ Steven's not new to adapting to sudden magical changes in his life, however exciting or confusing they may be. And for this, he's certainly doing his best work to make no exceptions. Being welcomed with joy is a big help there. He keeps his little leaf-made bag slung over a shoulder and pockets his gem shard to ensure he doesn't accidentally drop it while he's distracted. At least the gem he was born with can't just slip through his fingers or something and vanish, jeez. Bubbling his bit of day gem didn't work, but maybe later he can poke at it and try to figure out what's up with it.

In the meantime, it's kinda cool to have wings that work- dark pink in the center and on the tips. Something nice and simple. Steven will be one of the crowd not afraid to keep giving flight another try on a whim, typically laughing as his feet leave the ground. It's entirely possible that he'll accidentally buzz along right into a collision with another new arrival, thumping back down to the ground with a startled yell. Give him two seconds, he'll apologize.

He also has little to no apprehension when it comes to approaching strangers, so it could be he's just slotted himself right into someone's personal bubble to say hello. Anybody that's particularly noticeably confused, nervous, or frightened is likely to find themselves in Steven's company at some point. Just because he can't fix everything and save the day doesn't mean he can't try to help some people feel better about being in a giant tree surrounded by glow worms.

Not that he totally gets why being surrounded by friendly glow worms and fireflies wouldn't be kind of comforting in a time like this, but that's a lot like wondering exactly why Pearl can't stand eating human food. Sometimes it's better to let people have their things.

Alternatively, just about any kind of scenario will fly. No biggie, go for it.

[ nai is one of those who steven accidentally bumps into, but fortunately the force wasn't enough to knock him off his feet. he's done his share of crashing into people and things during his time here so this isn't anything new. recipe for soreness, but not new. ] Aah!

[ when steven yells, nai jumps, but he's looking on with curiosity despite the fright. ]

[gempathic]

[ And he was doing so well, too. Well. Okay, maybe not really. This seems to keep happening. Steven straightens himself out and turns towards Nai. ]

Sorry about that! [ He chuckles a little. ] I guess turning isn't as easy as the fireflies make it look. Are you okay?

[nullity]

[ he nods a few times and offers a smile once he hears the other laughing. ] I'm okay. Flying is hard for me too. [ but wait— ] Fireflies?

[gempathic]

Yeah, fireflies! They're the ones that are flying around all... glowy. Like that one! [ And he'll sort of follow one with his finger as it flies by. ] I've never seen any this big, or this friendly. But it's kinda nice to meet some now!

[ oh, that's what they're called! nai is already attracted to these tiny little lights but he wasn't familiar with their name. he follows the pointed finger with wide, curious eyes before smiling again. ] Me neither! They're really pretty and warm, and nice! But they fly away really fast sometimes.

[gempathic]

Haha, yeah, they really do. Maybe there are just a few shy guys in there. Or they're showing off to get us new guys excited about flying! I know I think it's pretty cool.

[Arno was really curious, he kept looking over to the very cheerful boy trying his luck at flying. He had to admit, maybe it was the very positive air around Steven. Because it surely made him noticeable in the crowd. Arno felt like he stood out with his somewhat serious disposition.

He had to know, what was up with this kid?]

You don't look out of place here at all, little man.

[gempathic]

I don't? [ First time he's heard that since he got to the tree. Not that he's been in it for very long. Steven guesses there's still time in the future for that kind of stuff. He glances over his shoulder to look at what he can see of his wings again. ] Is that a good thing, or do you think that's a bad thing? Fitting in could be pretty cool! But I know I'm not normally from a giant tree, either.

You just don't look as confused and lost as the most of us.

[Seriously, look at Arno. Here he was with his butterfly wings and it just flutters like he had little to no idea how it worked.

He would learn, eventually. But for now, he was sure he looked foolish.]

Ohh. I see. Well, if it helps, I'm definitely confused and lost, too! I think it's pretty cool around here, but I don't usually handle this kind of stuff by myself, either. [ He plants one hand on his hip and scratches the back of his head with the other. ] Not that I don't think we're gonna be okay! I'm sure everything's fine!

[What a Percy Positive, this kid was. Was he genuinely like this? Or did he just do it to make others feel better? Both were noble, at the very least. Maybe naive a little, but it was kindness. Kindness and support was what a lot of people needed right now.]

I doubt any of us are alone in any of our feelings.

[He just had a thought, this kid was alone? He was ripped from his friends and family? He couldn't be that old. He did say he didn't handle this kind of stuff alone. It must be more rough for him then, so maybe the attitude held a lot more water. Nah, actually, it totally did.]

But it helps to be optimistic about it, I suppose.

[Arno just then cocked a brow. Good lord, it was just a smidge hard to not have the boy rub off on him. Arno could be very serious but...Maybe optimism wasn't bad.]

As long as we all soon find our way out, then yes, it'll all be fine.

[gempathic]

See? Now you've got the right idea! [ That's like his job partially in the works. He guesses he hasn't protected the entirety of humanity in the tree, but keeping spirits up is a good start. ] All we have to do is figure out why we're here, and how we got here, and what we're supposed to do since we are here, and we're practically home free!

[ He doesn't fall into nervous or confused, but quiet. Not much left to do or say when you're probably dead, and while he's initiated his share of conversations here he's been keeping to himself, idly observing a glow worm acquaint itself with his fingers. But Steven's got a bright smile, the kind that lights up cities if it could, and he can't help but smile back. ]

How're you doin', kid?

[ Steven's easy to please. He'll take it. ]

Oh, I think I'm pretty good! I've never been a fairy before, buuut I'm trying not to let it hold me back. Flying could be really fun and useful, right? [ Or that's what he's assuming unless or until proven wrong. ] How about you?

Flyin's not bad, [ he agrees simply. ] Never been a fairy before either. Between you and me, wasn't really expecting that.

[gempathic]

Neither was I! It doesn't really look like anybody here was, so at least we're not alone. [ He brings a hand to his chin thoughtfully. ] Still, I guess you could say it's pretty unfairy that everyone got brought here so unprepared.

[ Nailed it. ]

[ That is an awful pun worthy of Bucky himself - and he's easily amused. He grins. ]

I don't know. You're doin' all right. [ a beat ] So, where're you from?

[gempathic]

I'm from a little place called Beach City. [ He says "a little place," but he says it in that way that means he thinks it's the coolest. Even though it... kind of is an actual little place. ] Oh, and it's on Earth. What about you?

[sleepwardsnored]

[As Steven buzzes along in practice, he might notice a little something clicking along beside him, quite clunky and mechanical compared to the fireflies flitting around as it ticks along on clockwork parts. It's harmless, unless someone decides to stick a finger between those big blocky pincers, maybe. And even then, it'd just fly back to its owner! Speaking of...

Maneuvering the little machine-- like some kind of RC...bug... from a ways off is Link, who'll smile shyly and give a little wave if Steven notices him.]

[gempathic]

[ And notice Steven does. There's something about a cool robo-bug thing and a cool, mysterious waving dude flying it around that appeals to his natural sensibilities. The sensibilities of finding out more about cool robo-bugs and the mysterious waving dudes who fly them.

Simplicity is often key with Steven. Link's little wave is more than enough acknowledgement for him to head over. ]

Hey! So that's your little robot thing? I can't say I expected to see a lot of machines when I got here.

[Lucky for the both of them, Link's a pretty simple guy. ...Despite the whole legendary-hero business, but that's for another time!]

Hello..!

[He nods, letting the Beetle flutter on back to rest on his wrist.]

He's good for getting into small spaces. Though... I guess now we are, too?

[That's the thing that takes the most getting used to, he figures-- being this tiny...]

[ Steven laughs. ]

Yeah, I think we are. Unless this is just a really big tree. Now we might need his help for getting into even smaller spaces, though. That could really come in handy, right?

Mm. I've seen some big trees, but... have you been outside? Everything out there is really big, too...! [It's interesting, in a sort-of-alarming way!]

You've got a point, though. I have a feeling he'll still have a lot to do around here, even if he's not the only one with wings anymore.

[gempathic]

I haven't been outside yet. But it's good to know everything else is giant and not just this tree. That's probably very important information that'll help us solve this mystery someday! [ he brings a hand to his chin and nods very officially. It's all coming together. ]
